Incoming Emergency Medicine Resident Physician and researcher advancing emergency medical care in the world's most austere environments — from wilderness and high-altitude expeditions to low-resource emergency departments worldwide. Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine. Explorer Award recipient.
I am an incoming Emergency Medicine Resident Physician with advanced training at the intersection of critical care, wilderness medicine, and global health. My academic credentials span a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from Rocky Vista University, a Master of Science in Biomedical Science (MS), a Master of Science in Austere Critical Care (MSc) from the College of Remote and Offshore Medicine in Malta — where my thesis investigated point-of-care ultrasound diagnosis of Swimming-Induced Pulmonary Edema in endurance athletes at altitude — and a Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM).
I am the inaugural Predoctoral Clinical Ultrasound Scholar at Rocky Vista University, selected by faculty to develop and teach ultrasound curriculum and pursue clinical research. I currently serve as a Faculty Lecturer at the College of Remote and Offshore Medicine for the MSc in Austere Critical Care program, and as a Wilderness Medicine Instructor with the Colorado Mountain Club.
Prior to medical school, I served as Medical Logistics Chief for San Mateo County's COVID-19 Emergency Operations Center — coordinating clinic sites vaccinating 4,000 people/day, totaling 870,000 individuals and 2 million vaccines — and founded the San Mateo County Medical Reserve Corps. As Medical Operations Manager for CrowdRx, I designed and operated a 53-foot mobile ICU trailer with 14 ICU beds and 2 resuscitation bays for mass gathering events including Burning Man.
My research has taken me from IronMan races at altitude to an emergency department in Tanzania to mountain medicine conferences across North America and Europe. I bring the same rigor to every setting: evidence, improvisation, and resourcefulness.

My research addresses point-of-care ultrasound, swimming-induced pulmonary edema, austere and resource-limited emergency care, wilderness medicine, and high-altitude physiology. All publications below are linked to their DOIs.
Current investigations and ongoing scholarly work.
$10,000 intramural grant from Rocky Vista University. Prospective study examining incidence of swimming-induced pulmonary edema and diagnostic utility of point-of-care ultrasound at moderate and high elevations. In partnership with IronMan Races.
Investigating field CPR in avalanche debris with non-traditional positioning. Rocky Vista University. Poster presented at Silverton Mountain Medicine Symposium 2025.
Author and Trial Coordinator. Journal of Travel Medicine grant-funded double-blind RCT. CU Altitude Research Group / University of Colorado.
Research Assistant, Center for Combat Research, CU Anschutz. Collaboration with Defense Health Agency, U.S. Army Medical R&D Command, and NSF.
Austere medicine is the practice of delivering high-quality critical care in environments where conventional tools, teams, and infrastructure are absent or severely limited — wilderness, high-altitude expeditions, disaster zones, conflict environments, and under-resourced emergency departments worldwide. This is my primary clinical and research identity.
Trained WEMT, FAWM, avalanche responder, swift water rescue, technical rope rescue. Wilderness Medicine Instructor with the Colorado Mountain Club. Conference faculty at Silverton Mountain Medicine Symposium.
Clinical and research work in austere EDs including Tanzania. Adapting evidence-based interventions to low-resource settings where POCUS replaces conventional imaging — diagnosing aortic dissection with a single probe.
Inaugural Predoctoral POCUS Scholar at RVU. MSc curriculum development and lectures at COROM Malta. Research spanning eFAST, RUSH exam, echocardiography, MSK, soft-tissue, and wilderness applications.
Multi-site prospective study of swimming-induced pulmonary edema at moderate and high altitude. IronMan collaboration. $10,000 grant. 6 conference presentations including AMSSM and ACSM.
Developing and delivering the point-of-care ultrasound curriculum for COROM's MSc program in Malta, including echocardiography for austere critical care.
Principal Investigator. Evaluating non-traditional CPR positioning in simulated avalanche debris. Silverton Mountain Medicine Symposium 2025 poster presentation.
Case report and clinical work at an austere emergency department in Tanzania. POCUS-based diagnosis of extensive aortic dissection with minimal equipment. Manuscript submitted to JEM International.
My clinical and research work has taken me into genuinely austere environments — high-altitude endurance races, mountain medicine symposia, international emergency departments, mass gathering events, and wilderness settings that define why resource-limited medicine matters. Multi-site POCUS study of swimming-induced pulmonary edema in IronMan athletes. Prospective data collection. 6 conference presentations. $10K grant.
